SUMMARY:
The Anishinaabemowin Advisor is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing and supporting all Anishinaabemowin language initiatives within the Bimose Tribal Council. The Advisor will work closely with member communities, educators, and partners to promote, preserve, and revitalize the Anishinaabemowin language. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the successful candidate will serve as a cultural and linguistic ambassador, ensuring the integration of language initiatives into community programs and policies.
DUTIES:
· Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of Anishinaabemowin language initiatives across the Tribal Council
· Support and collaborate with tribal communities, schools, and organizations to promote language revitalization and fluency
· Provide cultural and linguistic expertise to guide program development, ensuring respect for tradition and language integrity
· Coordinate language workshops, training sessions, and community events designed to enhance language learning.
· Develop resources, curricula, and teaching materials for all age groups and settings.
· Foster partnerships with educational institutions, government agencies, and Indigenous organizations to advance language goals.
· Monitor and report on the progress of language initiatives and recommend improvements.
· Advocate for increased resources and funding opportunities to sustain and expand language programs.
· Stay informed on best practices and emerging trends in Indigenous language revitalization.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Post-secondary education in Indigenous Studies, Linguistics, Education, or a related field.
· Extensive knowledge of Anishinaabemowin language and cultural practices.
· Proven experience in language revitalization or similar cultural programs.
· Strong leadership, organizational, and project management skills.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Knowledge and proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
· Experience working with Indigenous communities and leadership.
· Demonstrated knowledge with Indigenous education systems and policies.
